The climax of Jesus’s ministry prior to his crucifixion came when he was transfigured before his closest disciples, displaying the glory of his divinity and receiving affirmation from his Father. This same Son of God is the one through whom and to whom we draw near in worship.

Exodus 24:12–18 – The glory of the Lord was displayed to Moses and the people when they drew near to Mt. Sinai to receive his Law. This same glorious God reveals himself to us and calls us to draw near to him in worship.

Hymn 3 Holy, Holy, Holy – As the angles surrounding God’s throne worship his thrice holiness, so we join with them in adoration of God.

Glory Be to the Father (12)

Matthew 17:1–8 – The display of Christ’s divine glory on the mount of transfiguration caused his disciples to fall of their faces in terror because they recognized their unworthiness to be in his presence.

Hymn 76 How Sad Our State

Psalm 99:6 – God hears and answers those who call upon the Lord for mercy and forgiveness.

Hymn 237 Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee

Hebrews 3:1–6a: “Christ Superior to Moses” – As the transfiguration of Jesus clearly displayed, Christ is superior to all, including Moses.

The Law by Moses Came (Tune: 259) – The Law came through Moses, but peace and life come through Jesus Christ.

Hymn 44 O Splendor of God’s Glory Bright – We depart asking the Sun of heaven’s love to pour his blessings upon all that we do this week.
